Noticing more

I know that I have said this many times in my previous blogs. But this class has really opened up my eyes to a different view of Advertising and advertisements. I never really paid to much attention to the ads on the TV radio movies magazine. But after this learning so much about what is being projected out there I have become more aware of how women are depicted. Now when I flip through a magazine I stop and notice things in the ads. I makes me frustrated that the only way people think things will sell is by making a sexual ads. Its disappointing that we cant sell products in a positive light.

Pictures in stores

I work at Betsey Johnson at the Galleria Mall and in my store we have pictures, drawn pictures of so called Betsey and or her known signature pictures. I was taking close look at them the other day and notice that they weren't only sexy but implying dirty gestures. Someone the photos have a drawn women covering her chest with her arms saying welcome to the Betsey show, like watch out she might uncover her chest for everyone to see. Why cant the pictures in our store be of women clothed in the dresses we sell or use the photos from runway shoot? Well because Betsey Johnson is known for her crazy and wild ideas and outfit so it only natural for her to have wild crazy and inappriotate picture on the walls. Many mother have said things to the staff about the pictures and how they are kinds rough, and I agree they are but I guess that's ok cause that's what Betsey's all about. Odd I think.

Women in media. I topic that I choose to talk about is the exposure of women in the media ( TV, radio, magazine, games etc...) Over this time I have come to notice more more sexuality exploited ads. Before when looking at a magazine, I just looked I didn't really take into what or how these women or girls where being represented. I still believe that we make our own choices and these women have made their choice to expose themselves in a negative way. We all have choices and some people rather get themselves out there, then hind in the shadows. I have never been the type to be sexy for anyone but myself and these women in the ads we have seen are always so eager to be in this way.

Sex movies!!

Using Sex to sell movies!!!
This month I have gone to the movies twice and notice that in both open scenes, sex or sexual content was present. It seems that all the movies today have some kind of sex scene in them. American Gangster and We own the night both had sex present in there movies. I don't believe they need to have sex in the movies to make it interesting. The movie would have had the same effect on me with out all the provocative scenes. I think the directors use sex to try to capture the viewers attention. As if sex will keep us interested in the movie, to me the movie would be the same with or without these sex scenes. Sex is movies is what it is and I don't think that it will change anytime soon, but I don't think it is necessary to have just to keep it interesting, the movies should be with or without it.

Glitz and Glamour

Earlier this week I was at the bookstore looking at magazines, I started to notice more of a trend, one I already knew about but didn't give much thought to. As I was flipped through these magazines I noticed that most of the ads where all about how to be pleasing to the eye. With your appearances the right clothes makeup hair the works. They make it seem like women cant be amazing without having all these great qualities. Like being natural or just average isn't enough anymore with must go far and beyond to be of worth. Not that I don't enjoy dressing nice or wearing fun things but I should not have to do these things just to get notice. I feel like today society has put such great emphasis on how we look, like there is some kind of flaw just being who you are. To much glitz and glamour.

Music Video

The think that the usage of sex in music video has got out of control!! These artists are using sex in a very inappropriate way, Women and men should not be used in that way just to gain viewers for there videos. I honestly hate sometimes watching MTV or similar shows I personally don't like watching women shaking there butt or showing their chest. Not because that it offends me but because I just don't like to see it. I wish that these artist could find better ways of voicing there artistic ability without exploiting women. I do feel like over time music video have got alittle better or maybe I think that just cause I dont really watch videos but what I have seen it looks to be getting better slowly.

Love your body

this week there was a group of kids standing outside in the court yard displaying what they believe that advertising had done. These girls where standing out side wearing shorts and tanktops. There point was that regardless of what we see in magazines or on TV you should love yourself the way you are. I believe this. I dress and act the way I do for me I do not care about what is shown on TV or in Fashion magazines. I try not to let those types of things sway my opinion on how I should dress or act. The skinny or high fashion models dont really effect the way I dress or effect how I look. I just do what makes me happy I dont really follow the trend. I follow my own!!
